Why Does the Zebra Wear Pajamas?

Our 6th grade girls learned this popular Israeli song in Ivrit class recently. They were so taken by the song, that they decided to sing and perform it in front of the elementary students this year. 

As the lesson occurred just before Purim, the 6th graders all dressed up as Zebras and had fun singing and spreading the moral message of the song: don’t try to be someone else; each one of us is special and unique and should be inspired by one’s own image and not someone else's.  We need to respect each other for what we are.

Mentoring Program

The Hebrew Academy Upper School has recently taken an active approach to creating a positive school community and fostering relationships that span across the school. Throughout the last semester, middle and high school students have enrolled in the Mentoring Program and are working on building essential interpersonal and communication skills. During our meetings on Wednesday afternoons during Enrichment, students have had the opportunity to learn effective mentoring strategies, meet with their Mentor Advisor, and begin to build this program from the ground up.

Propaganda Posters

As part of the Hebrew Academy High School’s American History class, students have just completed an in-depth study of the Great War, also known as World War One. Our scholars focused on the homefront, learning how Americans at home were affected in their daily lives by the fighting of so many soldiers abroad. At the conclusion of the unit, with support from Mrs. Lydon and Ms. Wolfsen, pairs of students worked to create their own propaganda posters in the style of posters produced by the Committee on Public Information in its efforts to influence American opinion about the war.  What’s Going On Under Our Feet?

Was that an earthquake?? With the San Andreas Fault right in our backyard, this question in not uncommon to Southern Californians. In the Middle School Science Department, I am working to equip students to not only answer this question, but understand the science behind. In an effort to provide students with a comprehensive and in-depth experience related to earthquakes, the Math and Science Department is pleased to announce that we have officially started our next project! This project is geared towards preparing students to perform a thorough analysis of regions affected by earthquakes.
