Blue and white crepe streamers, stars of David, and Chanukah signs adorned the high school, bringing on holiday cheer throughout the month of Kislev. The Bnos planned an engaging week of festivities, including a latke cook-off and a carnival. The Chanukah experience at Hebrew Academy certainly is one of a kind!
The epic latke cook-off was one of the highlights of the Chanukah program. The girls were split into groups and competed for the best latke dish. Additional challenges such as mandatory ingredients and surprising twists were introduced throughout the contest.
Dishes were evaluated by our star judges: Mr. Weiss, Enrique from Maintenance, the Bnos, and Shua Bisk. The winning dish was a homemade latke over a bed of carrot ribbons, layered with sauteed onions and zucchini chips topped with a hot sunny-side-up egg. The cookoff was definitely a highlight.
Further fun things over Chanukah included a carnival that featured a donut eating contest and a hit-Antiochus-in-the-face booth. A fast-paced Jeopardy game testing the girl's Chanukah knowledge was a hit. We wrapped up Chanukah with the game White Elephant. Girls prepared a wrapped gift with the contents unbeknownst to anyone. Everyone got a number and their number was called. They had the option to take a new gift or steal one from someone else. The game was lots of fun and everyone left with a Chanukah gift.
Thank you to the Bnos ladies and everyone who had a part in arranging these programs.
