Social Studies
Middle School students at The Hebrew Academy complete a 3-year rotation focusing each year on another topic of Social Studies, including:
-
Ancient history and the antiquities, including Mesopotamia, Egypt, China, India, Greece and Rome;
-
Early World, including the fall of the Roman Empire, the Renaissance, the Scientific Revolution and the Enlightenment; and
-
Early US history, from colonization through the Civil War.
Social Studies at The Hebrew Academy focus largely on skill acquisition. The curriculum is designed to teach the skills necessary to acquire an understanding of the concepts introduced, to understand the relationship of past and current events in time and place and to become increasingly aware of how these events have formed the foundations of our world today. A variety of engaging instructional strategies ensures that a wide range of learning styles are engaged. Short lecture, Q & A, debate, discussion, simulations, writing assignments and project work are all part of the Social Studies curriculum.
