Judaic Studies

Tefillah - Prayer 

Students broaden their knowledge and fluency of the traditional daily prayers from a Siddur (prayer book), as well as gain an appreciation for the meaning of the prayers they are reciting. Our goal is for our students to become familiar with the Jewish prayers in the Siddur and to appreciate and connect with their prayer experience.

Chumash - Torah Study

The study of the Five Books of Moses with traditional commentary. This is a text-based course in the original Hebrew. 

Navi 

The study of select books of the Prophets with traditional commentary. This is a text-based course in the original Hebrew. MS girls study the complete book of Shmuel.

Parsha - Weekly Torah Portion

The study of the Weekly Torah Portion and its applications to life. 

Yahadut - Jewish Traditions and Customs

The study of Jewish Law and its applications to daily life. In depth study of the stages of the life cycle, and the Jewish traditions, rituals, ceremonies, and celebrations used to mark each stage. Students will research and document life cycle events that have taken place in their own families. Active learning via guest speakers, drama, field trips, interviews, oral presentations, and art projects will be emphasized.

Jewish History

Using the book, “2000 years of Jewish History”, the students will study the time periods from the Churban (Destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem) to the Modern Era.

Hebrew Language/Ivrit 

middle schoolers - israel.jpgSpoken Hebrew Language is studied in tracks from Beginner levels to Advanced levels. In Ivrit, students develop their Hebrew oral skills. As they advance in their knowledge and accuracy of Hebrew, they become confident in their communication abilities. Lessons are built around and are based on the Hamikraah Sheli curriculum. 

Gemara 

The study of Talmud with traditional commentaries. This is a text-based study in the original Aramaic. Various Tractates are studied including the subjects of Festivals, and interactions between peoples.

Chassidic Philosophy

The Middle School students study various concepts in Jewish Philosophy.
