When you think of the Purim holiday, you may imagine colorful costumes, festive music, and delicious treats. But did you know that sound also plays a crucial role in celebrating Purim? The Hebrew Academy Community Day School, in partnership with PJ Library of Orange County, recently hosted a STEM event that explored the science of sound and its significance in the Purim story. The "Sounds of Purim" event was educational and an exciting opportunity for the community to connect academic learning to their cultural identity.

The "Sounds of Purim" STEM event was a huge success, providing families with an engaging and interactive learning experience that combined STEM concepts with Judaic values. Through various interactive activities, children (and parents) learned about soundwaves' science while exploring sound's cultural significance in celebrating Purim.

Parents were thrilled with the event and had high praise for the program. Rochelle Chanin, a former Hebrew Academy teacher who attended with her children, said, "All the details were thought out, and you guys had such innovative ideas - You hit it out of the park!" Livi Norten, Head of PJ Library Engagement in Huntington Beach, added, "I was beyond impressed by The Sounds of Purim - STEM Event."

The event highlighted the educational value of STEM education and the importance of purpose-driven academics. Dr. Marin, the event leader, created unique and innovative discovery stations that provided students with a hands-on opportunity to see, hear, and feel sound waves in unique ways. Her attention to detail and commitment to excellence ensured the program was educational, engaging, and fun.

But the "Sounds of Purim" STEM event wasn't just about academic value. It was also about the cultural value of the Hebrew Academy's Judaic program. As Rabbi Popack, our Judaic Principal, explained, "At the Hebrew Academy, we believe in integrating Judaic and General studies to provide our students with a well-rounded education that prepares them for academic success and meaningful life. By exploring the significance of sound in celebrating Purim, students could connect their academic learning to their cultural identity, making their academic learning more meaningful and relevant to their lives. The "Sounds of Purim" event perfectly exemplifies how our academic and cultural programs work together to provide our students with a unique and engaging educational experience.”

At the Hebrew Academy Community Day School, we believe in the value of purpose-driven academics, where learning is about acquiring knowledge and making connections to our cultural and personal identities. The "Sounds of Purim" STEM event perfectly exemplifies this value in action. It combined STEM education with Judaic culture, creating a unique and engaging learning experience for our community.

We are proud to have created the "Sounds of Purim" STEM event, and we are grateful to our upper school science teacher, Dr. Marin, for her dedication and commitment to excellence. It reflects the school’s commitment to providing our students with a well-rounded education that prepares them for academic success and a meaningful and fulfilling life.
