I can shake off everything as I write; my sorrows disappear, my courage is reborn.

English

Our Middle School English curriculum focuses on research, literature, and writing.  In addition to the project based learning our students are thoughtfully instructed to ensure that they are excellent technical writers, critical readers and discerning consumers of information in a digital age.

Our English curriculum is designed to teach students to think logically, to read with delight and discernment, and to speak and write with expression, clarity and fluency.

  • Instruction consists of a balanced approach to reading strategies and comprehension, literature appreciation, the writing process, oral communication, listening comprehension, and grammar.
  • Students develop reading skills and the ability to make meaningful and personal connection with literature, as well as skills and strategies to help them read and study in all content areas.
  • Journal writing, small and whole-group discussions enable students to discover and refine their own, expressive voices.
  • Students are required to write across disciplines and practice writing in multiple genres including expository, persuasive, narrative, and fiction, and poetry.
